OSPIRG has launched a Toxic-Free Communities campaign. Working together with PIRG organizations in more than 17 states, our advocates and organizers are making the case for the key policies our nation will need to protect public health and the environment from toxic chemicals. More.

Safer Products

The 2005 Oregon Legislature passed the OSPIRG-backed Senate Bill 962, which will phase out the use and sale of a group of toxic flame retardants in Oregon, in favor of safer alternatives. More.

Overview

All Americans deserve to live in a healthy and toxic-free environment. We need bold policies that replace toxic chemicals with safer alternatives, compel polluters to pay for cleaning up past pollution, and require companies to tell us whenever they are storing or releasing toxic chemicals or putting them in the products we purchase.

Without the Toxic Release Inventory Regulations, industrial facilities in or near our communities could put toxic waste into our environment and even drinking water without informing the public.
