Mortgage Lending Reform

The current mortgage meltdown means a big spike in foreclosures for Oregon and a big drag on our economy. We need to take action now to prevent the next crisis by cracking down on overly aggressive and abusive lending. In a short session this February, the Oregon legislature will take on the issue of mortgage lending reform. OSPIRG is working to show lawmakers that this issue is too important to wait. More.

Toy Safety

Widespread recalls of toys containing lead paint and other hazards have put everyone on alert. All manufacturers need to verify that the products they sell meet American standards, and OSPIRG is calling on Congress to beef up enforcement. More.

The Oregon Legislature passed the Consumer Identity Theft Protection Act. Effective October, 2007, the bill gives Oregon residents the right to a security freeze on their credit reports to block thieves, and requires businesses and other data dealers to notify you if your personal information is compromised.
