Tell me if you’ve heard this one.

Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon is proposing to raise rates an average of 22% on 60,000 Oregonians.

Actual increases could be as high as 34% for some people. Unless you bump into a higher age bracket this year. Then it will be more.

If you have a Regence individual policy, this sounds very familiar. This is the fifth straight year Regence has filed for a double-digit rate increase.

But this year, something interesting is happening. Teresa Miller at the Oregon Insurance Division has been knocking rate increases down — not necessarily to easily affordable levels — but enough to make a difference.

Now, she’s announced she’s holding a public hearing on this latest Regence rate hike on June 2nd.

If you or someone you care about is impacted by this pending rate increase, I encourage you to attend and make your voice heard.

We’ll be there too, testifying on our analysis of the rate filing from a consumer perspective, as part of the OSPIRG Foundation’s Health Insurance Rate Watch project.

Through the project, we’re diving into the details of the insurance company rate filings, and raising flags when increases aren’t adequately justified. Tonight, we’ll start work on this latest rate filing from Regence.

See you at the hearing.
