Matt Wallace is OSPIRG’s consumer associate, advocating the public interest on a range of issues including mortgage lending, prescription drug costs and safety, and media reform. Matt joined staff in 2007 after serving as an environmental associate with the Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group (WisPIRG), where he lead a campaign to reduce mercury emissions from the state’s power plants. He has been involved with OSPIRG and the state PIRGs since 2001, working on grassroots fundraising campaigns, later becoming a student leader with the Portland State University Chapter of the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group. In addition to his policy work on mercury contamination, Matt also brings to OSPIRG his experience as director of a citizen outreach office in Des Moines, IA. Matt is a native Texan, and grew up in various cities including Richland, WA. He graduated from Portland State University in 2006.
